Vintage 1937 Herald for the Mayfair Theatre in Portland Oregon announcing the triumphant transcontinental tour of the brilliant comedy which delighted New York all last season, starring Jane Cowl in "First Lady", the New York comedy hit.
This is a rare four-page advertising herald (flyer) promoting the On-The-Road version of the Broadway production of the KATHARINE DAYTON and
GEORGE S. KAUFMAN comedy "FIRST LADY" that had a successful run in New York City. (The production opened November 26th, 1935 and ran for 246 performances into 1936.). The performances for the show in Portland, Oregon were for March 29th, 30th, and 31st, 1937.
Advertising handbills and heralds were distributed by mail or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events.
This four-page herald has a stunning photo of the Jane Cowl, and includes two wonderful illustrations on the inside, a black and white photo of the entire cast on stage, with promotional text and excerpts from a number of New York reviews on the inside pages and backside.
Also of note is the
addition of the Promotional sticker on the back that has been added by the Box Office to advertise the ticket prices for the evening showings or for the Wednesday matinee
. This rare herald can only add value to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian.
